About

Grace Meda is a Calabar woman who has never met a story she didn't want to hear to the end. Ask her about a book and you'll get the plot, the gossip, the part where she gasped out loud, and a firm opinion about which character was wrong. She loves drama the way some people love sport — with full commitment and a running commentary — and Mauve Books grew straight out of that appetite. She kept looking for the Nigerian novels her friends were reading, in the editions they were actually holding, and couldn't find them in Canada. So she started bringing them over herself.

Mauve is a small shop with a big point of view. Every title on the shelf is one Grace has read, argued about, or pressed into someone's hands. She stocks Nigerian-published editions where she can, because she believes Lagos presses deserve customers on this side of the Atlantic, and she builds her reading lists the way she talks: warmly, directly, and with a genuine wish for you to love what she loves.

Come for the books. Stay for the recommendations, the opinions, and the occasional dramatic reading of a favourite scene.
